Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. The actress is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. Her father, a carnival barker, died at the age of a tiny child, forcing her mother to provide for the family by working as an attendant and a cleaner. Ruth grew in a poor Boston Tenement area in Massachusetts. She attended school in Boston. Her school was closed in two years in order to study acting. It was not without problems. When she was offered a job as a model in New York as a model for a magazine that dealt with detectives, she was unable to secure opportunities in the stage. Then, she worked as a hat check girl at the nightclub before calling the shots and moving back to Boston. The New England Repertory Company was the first position she held as a steady actor. The company paid her performing during the daytime as an usherette. She received a master's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
